The Bully Wee lost out to Ladbrokes League 2 leaders Forfar Athletic this afternoon, in what was an unfortunate defeat after a spirited display by the home team.

Barry Ferguson made one enforced change to the starting line-up following last week’s win at Elgin, with David Gormley coming in for the suspended Martin McNiff.

The visitors started brightly and had a early chance, but Lewis Milne’s shot went past the post.

However, as the first half progressed, Clyde got on top and took the game to Forfar. Scott Linton’s low drive was well saved by Grant Adam and the ‘keeper also kept out Sean Higgins curling effort.

The Bully Wee also had the ball in the net, as David Gormley converted the rebound after Adam pushed out another Linton shot, but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside.

Shortly before half-time, Forfar took advantage of a surprising refereeing decision to take the lead. Gavin Swankie’s shot appeared to go straight over the bar, but a corner was awarded and Thomas O’Brien headed home at the back post from subsequent the delivery.

After the break, The Loons changed their approach to a more defensive shape and Clyde spent the majority of the half trying to break down a stubborn defence.

Ross Perry came close to getting his first Clyde goal, but his header from Linton’s free-kick drifted wide of the target.

There were two major talking points, as two strong claims for a penalty were waved away by Gavin Ross; firstly when Peter MacDonald was manhandled in the box and secondly when Phil Johnston went down after a sliding challenge by Michael Kennedy.

Deep into injury time, there was an agonising scramble in the away penalty box, as MacDonald’s header was superbly saved by Adam before Perry’s return shot was blocked and the ball was eventually cleared away, just before the final whistle sounded.
