Recap

The Bully Wee recorded a fine victory over Edinburgh City this evening, to move up to sixth place in the Ladbrokes League 2 table.

Danny Lennon made just one change to his starting XI, with Jack Boyle returning in place of Ray Grant.

Clyde had a good early chance when the ball broke to Kevin Nicoll in the box, but his low shot went straight at home ‘keeper Calum Antell.

The home side then had a decent few minutes and Blair Currie kept out Farid El Alagui, before the same player headed over from a good position after a cross from the right wing.

However, after 21 minutes, The Bully Wee made the breakthrough when Chris McStay’s corner was met at the near post by Nicoll and the captain made no mistake with his header.

A few minutes later, it was 2-0 as an excellent team move resulted in Jack Boyle finding a bit of space at the edge of the box and the on loan Huddersfield Town man found the bottom corner with a great strike.

Early in the second half, Clyde found a decisive third goal as David Goodwillie was put in behind the City defence and, from a difficult angle, the club’s top scorer finished in typically composed style.

Edinburgh’s attempts to get back into the match were largely ineffective as Clyde defended well as a unit, although Gareth Rodger missed an excellent chance when he put the ball over from only a few yards out.

There was one negative for The Bully Wee before full-time, as Nicoll was shown a second yellow card for a clumsy tackle in midfield and sent off the pitch early.
