Recap

David Goodwillie scored another late winning goal for the Bully Wee this afternoon as they recorded a 3-2 victory over Edinburgh City at Broadwood.

Recent signings Jack Boyle, Dylan Cogill and Ray Grant were all included on the bench, as Danny Lennon named an unchanged starting XI for the second weekend in a row.

Clyde started the game well and Ally Love was the first player to try his luck, after David Goodwillie jinked past a couple of City defenders before teeing up the winger, whose shot was tipped onto the post by Callum Antell.

The deadlock was broken after fourteen minutes when Barry Cuddihy picked up the ball on the halfway line and made a good burst forward, before playing in David Goodwillie, who fired his shot past Antell and into the back of the net from the right hand side of the box.

Goodwillie came close again from a similar angle after a good ball from Love, but his effort this time went across the face of the goal.

The lead was doubled when Mark Lamont dispossessed Jesus Garcia Tena just inside the Edinburgh half and drove forward, before playing a through ball to Goodwillie. The striker’s powerful effort on target was parried by Antell, and Cuddihy was the first to react to the rebound, with a composed finish from the edge of the box.

The Citizens got themselves back into the game just before half-time following a quick counter attack which saw Scott Shepherd played through on goal. He outpaced Martin McNiff and rolled the ball under Blair Currie, who couldn’t keep the effort out despite getting a leg to it.

Edinburgh City then equalised six minutes after the restart when Kevin Nicoll barged Shepherd over inside the area. Josh Walker made no mistake with the spot kick, placing a low shot to Currie’s right.

There was little in the way of goalmouth action in the second half but the visitors did have the ball in the back of the net again from a corner. Referee Mike Roncone however spotted a push from ex-Clyde man Pat Scullion, and the goal was ruled out.

Danny Lennon introduced new recruits Grant, Cogill and Boyle into the game, and it was the latter who made a pivotal contribution to the final result. With just one minute of normal time remaining, Boyle received the ball on the edge of the area and played an inch-perfect pass through to Goodwillie, who slotted past Antell from close range.

The goal was Goodwillie’s 15th of the season, and it meant that Clyde’s recent good form continued, as they recorded their third win in a row.
