An excellent second half comeback earned The Bully Wee a much needed win in Ladbrokes League 2 this afternoon.

JP McGovern and Peter MacDonald made two changes to the team following last week’s defeat at Arbroath, with Connor Quinn and Chris Smith coming in for the injured John Gibson and Ross Perry.

In a scrappy opening period of the game, Clyde managed to force an opening when Smith’s diagonal pass reached Phil Johnston in the box, but his first touch took him away from goal and the chance was thwarted.

However, Edinburgh were enjoying the best of the play in general and scored when a straight pass cut open the Clyde defence and Lewis Allan slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

After a poor first half display, The Bully Wee showed signs of improvement after the half-time break and got an equaliser with 51 minutes on the clock. A free-kick led to the ball falling for Matt Flynn and the midfielder found the net with a volley.

As Clyde began to play with more confidence, a second goal quickly arrived as away goalkeeper Andrew Stobie dropped a cross under pressure, David Gormley did well to keep the ball alive and Peter MacDonald forced it home from close range – his 20th goal of the season.

At the other end, Quinn then pulled off a good save to deny Allan getting his second goal of the game.

On 77 minutes though, The Bully Wee created some breathing space when a fine move involving Gormley and Ferguson gave MacDonald a chance in the box and the joint player-manager finished it with style.

Late in the game, the visitors hit the bar with a shot from an angle, as Flynn’s shot went just over at the other end.
