Recap
Clyde end 2023 six points adrift at the foot of the table after their winless run continued with defeat to Stenhousemuir at New Douglas Park.
There were three changes from the side that faced Dumbarton as Ian McCall elected to start Logan Dunachie, Darren Hynes and Kian Leslie, with Erik Sula dropping to the bench, and Alex King and Martin Rennie missing through suspension and injury respectively.
Stenhousemuir opened the scoring with their first shot on target after 14 minutes. Anderson muscled past various Clyde defenders to thread the ball to Aitken in the centre of the box, who finished beyond Leighfield in a one-on-one to drill it into the net.
The visitors were enjoying the majority of possession with The Bully Wee blocked from seriously testing the ‘keeper. However, the hosts managed to mount a counter attack in the 24th minute after Lyon paved the way for Stevenson to launch a dangerous effort goalwards, but his effort flew wide.
It was a subdued start to the second half before a stramash in the Clyde box resulted in the ball being knocked into the path of Adam Brown, however, his strike missed the target.
Clyde’s defence was yet again caught unguarded as the Warriors doubled their advantage with Aitken netting his brace in the 66th minute. The ball flung into the box and rattled the bar, before bouncing back into play and falling to Aitken, who rifled it home.
As the clock neared the last quarter of the match, the league leaders were reduced to 10-men after Taylor was issued a straight red card for a dangerous two footed lunge on Raymond Grant.
In the final 10 minutes, proceedings had seemingly reverted to type with a lack of goalscoring threat. Raymond Grant spurned a late chance for the Bully Wee with a effort from outside the box, but the ball was drove straight at Jamieson.
However, The Bully Wee did manage a late consolation in the third minute of injury time. Liam Scullion’s low cross was flicked on by Barry Cuddihy into the path of Logan Dunachie, who poked the ball into the net from close range.
