Stenhousemuir v Clyde

The Bully Wee came from two goals down to take a point against Stenhousemuir at Ochilview today.

Brian McLean made one change to his side from last Saturday’s victory, with Darren Whyte coming in for his debut, replacing the injured Darren Hynes.

Jack Leighfield had a fine afternoon between the sticks and he was called upon as early as the second minute to make a fantastic one-on-one save from point blank range, albeit the assistant referee then raised his flag for offside.

Martin Rennie then had Clyde’s first opportunity of the afternoon when he picked up the ball in the box with his back to goal and hit a shot on the turn, but Darren Jamieson had it covered.

The Warriors continued to threaten with Leighfield making another top drawer save with his fingertips to deny Adam Brown with a header, and then Erik Sula made a sliding block to keep out Matty Yates’ effort heading towards target.

Rennie showed good control up the other end to take the ball past a couple of defenders but dragged his shot wide, before the hosts opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, with Gregor Buchanan rising highest from a corner to head home.

Leighfield was called into action again to push Yates’ free-kick past the post before Clyde had a flurry of chances as the half drew to a close through King, Young and Whyte, but were unable to take them.

As the second half started Stenhousemuir looked for a second goal and only a strong palm from Leighfield denied Matty Aitken. The hosts didn’t have to wait too much longer however as Yates doubled their advantage, driving through on goal and slotted beyond the ‘keeper.

The Bully Wee pulled one back with an hour gone. King’s corner was nodded on at the front post by Rennie, and Logan Dunachie got his boot to the ball to send it into the roof of the net.

The match was level with ten minutes remaining. Dunachie turned provider and hooked a cross into the back post where Rennie and Stenny defender Edin Lynch both challenged for the ball, which went past a rooted Jamieson.

Clyde then had a golden chance to win the game with time running out. Ji Stevenson raced past a defender on the left flank and whipped a delivery across the face of goal which Rennie met, but the ball had too much pace on it and the front man was unable to control as the ball bounced off his knee and over the bar with the net empty.
