Recap

The Bully Wee survived a second half comeback from Stenhousemuir this afternoon, as they recorded a fine win and picked up all three Ladbrokes League 2 points at Ochilview.

Danny Lennon made five changes to the Clyde side, three of which were injury enforced, with Blair Currie, Kieran Duffie, Jordan Stewart, Mark Lamont and Adam Martin coming into the starting XI.

Clyde got off to a great start and took the lead after eight minutes, when Chris McStay picked the ball up outside the box following a corner and blasted an excellent shot into the net, despite home ‘keeper Lewis McMinn getting a hand to it.

Ross Meechan put a shot wide for The Warriors, but the situation got even better for The Bully Wee on 28 minutes. A horrible mix up at the heart of the home defence allowed David Goodwillie to sneak in and squeeze the ball past McMinn to make it 2-0.

A few minutes into the second half, the match looked like it might be over as Barry Cuddihy’s pass put Goodwillie through on goal and the striker rounded McMinn before finishing from a tight angle.

Clyde fans, however, rarely see things done the easy way and Stenhousemuir quickly responded, making the match a contest again as Eddie Ferns made no mistake from close range after a low cross missed everyone and went across the face of goal.

That led to the first spell of domination for the hosts and some frantic defending resulted in the ball being cleared off the line, with a strong claim for a goal, and Blair Currie made a good save to stop Alan Cook’s low drive.

On 76 minutes, Harry Paton was able to create some space for himself at the edge of the box and find the bottom corner with a low shot, to set up a nervy finish to the match.

Lamont, however, had a great chance to seal the win when he was given a clear sight of the home goal, but his shot was blocked by the onrushing McMinn.

There was one final chance for Stenhousemuir to earn a point when a long cross reached Cook at the back post, but his volley sailed into the arms of Currie and the full-time whistle arrived to the relief of the travelling support.
