Alloa Athletic v Clyde

The Bully Wee picked up an important three points on the road against Alloa Athletic this afternoon thanks to Ally Love’s second half strike, and moved up to 7th position in the cinch League One table.

Danny Lennon made one change to the team that came from behind to draw with Peterhead last Saturday, with Paul Kennedy replacing the injured Ross Cunningham.

After a fairly quiet opening period, Alloa had a good chance to take the lead just after the 20 minute mark following a break down the left wing. The ball was centred to Euan Henderson, but Matthew Elsdon made a vital block to stop his goalbound shot.

A couple of minutes later David Goodwillie showed fantastic skill to beat a couple of opponents and drove into the box, but his effort was saved and held by David Hutton.

Just before the interval The Wasps created another opportunity, but Mark Durnan saw his header from a corner go just past the post.

A couple of minutes into the second half Rob Jones won a flick-on which Billy Mortimer played into Goodwillie, but the striker couldn’t get much power in his shot and it was held by Hutton.

At the other end Neil Parry made a fantastic save to deny Steven Boyd from breaking the deadlock. The ball made it’s way to the Alloa player in the centre of the box, one-on-one with Parry, but the ‘keeper somehow managed to make a great reflex stop to turn the ball behind for a corner.

The only goal of the afternoon came in the 57th minute. Goodwillie held the ball up well before laying off to Ally Love. He took a touch, then rifled the ball into the bottom corner of the net from around 25 yards out.

Parry was then called into action again, getting two strong hands behind Charlie Gilmour’s blistering drive, whilst Stegan Scougal fizzed a low effort off the base of the post.

In the closing stages Henderson got to the by-line then sent a low cross across the face of goal, but none of his teammates could get a touch on it to divert into the net.
