Annan Athletic 1-1 Clyde

The Bully Wee picked up a point at a bitterly cold Galabank this afternoon, following a 1-1 draw with Annan Athletic in the Ladbrokes League 2.

Club captain Kevin Nicoll returned to the side following injury, with Adam Martin dropping to the bench, in the only change from the team that beat Elgin City on Tuesday.

Clyde almost took an early lead in bizarre circumstances when home ‘keeper Alex Mitchell blasted a clearance against his teammate Steven Swinglehurst from close range, with the ball just falling the wrong side of the post. From the resulting corner, Kieran Duffie had a header cleared off the line.

Blair Henderson should have done better when he was played through one-on-one with Blair Currie, but he snatched at his chance and missed the target completely.

Conditions worsened in the second half with a flurry of snow and The Bully Wee also had the disadvantage of shooting into a strong wind.

On the hour mark Henderson created a counter attack and played in Aidan Smith, whose well struck shot was held by Currie.

A few minutes later Clyde took the lead. From a throw-in Martin McNiff found David Goodwillie, who appeared to be barged in the box by a home defender. The referee didn’t award a penalty, and the ball fell to Kevin Nicoll, who did well to get it out from his feet, and placed a shot past Mitchell from around twelve yards.

The hosts were back on level terms just five minutes later when Henderson won the ball in midfield and drove forward, before hitting a trundling shot from outside the area, which beat Currie and crept into the bottom corner.

The Bully Wee tried to regain the lead and Chris McStay played a ball across the face of goal which was somehow cleared over the bar by Annan’s Evan Horne from a yard out. A few moments later another clearance from Horne was this time sliced on target and had to be parried away by Mitchell.

Clyde had late chances through Goodwillie and Jack Boyle but couldn’t find the back of the net again, whilst a stoppage time effort from Rabin Omar was also saved by Currie.
