Tom McCracken

All at the club were deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of lifelong supporter Tom McCracken.

Born in Glasgow, Tom attended his first Bully Wee match in 1964 with his brother-in-law, Stewart. His father knew iconic Clyde goalkeeper Tommy McCulloch, who helped Tom become a ballboy during the 1967-68 season, alongside Dougie Donnelly.

Tom named Harry Hood as his all-time favourite Clyde player. He was also a promising young footballer himself, having spent time on the books at Partick Thistle.

Tom grew up on Glasgow’s southside and attended Shawlands Academy before going on to university in Galashiels. He subsequently lived in various parts of the country, including Edinburgh, Middlesbrough and Birmingham, before eventually settling in Portishead. Throughout his travels, he continued to play for local teams and later took up refereeing, officiating to a good standard in the Birmingham area.

Professionally, Tom ran his own business, worked for the RAC and delivered training and mediation services within the NHS. He also enjoyed a varied career in the creative world, undertaking voiceover work and appearing as an extra in film and television productions.

Although moving to England meant that opportunities to watch Clyde became fewer and further between, Tom continued to follow The Bully Wee as closely as he could. His last match was the play-off final against Hamilton at Broadwood, which he attended with his old friend Jim.

Everyone at Clyde extends their deepest condolences to Tom’s daughter, son-in-law and two young grandsons, whom he adored, as well as his many friends at this sad time.
