Joe Talks

Joe Miller spoke to the website this evening in the wake of what was a painful defeat, when a late St Johnstone double delivered a knock out blow for the Bully Wee on Boxing Day.

Joe commented, “It was a sore one to take and that is why the players were in at Broadwood this morning. We needed a time to meet, to clear the air. Losing leads in the latter stages of matches is happening too often. It is something I just can’t accept.”

“For the side that we are and for the football that we can play we should be much nearer the top. We are a good side but look at how we have failed to take maximum points in matches. It is a lack of concentration and that is what I’m focussing on.”

Joe continued, “All the players were taken on here after having bad experiences at other clubs. They were given a chance to prove themselves and show their ability but on occasions we have seen why they were released by other clubs.”

“I have standards that must be adhered to and now is the time for all of us to stand up and be counted but I’m not going to be pointing the finger at individuals, we win and lose as a group.”

Asked why he did not attend the post match press conference, Joe summed up his frustration, “The outcome at Perth has happened too often I was not going to go to a press conference just to repeat myself. I let the players know my feelings. It was so frustrating as yesterday gave us a chance to jump up the league and who knows the way the fixtures are working out a few victories and we could have been second by the New Year.”

Joe concluded by focussing on the positive, “Alex and Gary did very well up front as did the defence. Not by any means is this the end of the world. I’m still upbeat about the team. We have 51 points to play for now and I have not given up hope. That is why we met today as we can still make amends. I’m expecting a positive reaction in what is coming up to be a crucial week for the club. Three victories will go some way to repay the fans who like us all were so disappointed after Tuesday’s result.”
