Falkirk 1 Clyde 6: Match Reaction

Alan Kernaghan:

“It was an enjoyable performance from everybody. I tried to stress to them before the game that everybody needs to play the game of their lives and they did that. The conditions didn’t help to make it a pretty game but we had people up against people and challenges for every ball and it bore fruit for us.”

“I thought we defended extremely well and it’s hard to pick out a Man of the Match because they were all fantastic. I don’t think Bryn had much to do which is a turnaround from Saturday at home. But Leigh and Brian will rightly get the plaudits, it’s not many times in your career that you get a hat-trick. I’m pleased for them, it’s a shame we can’t get two balls for them!”

“We’ve got two hard games over the weekend, Ross County away and at home, and even if we get two results there the fight will continue. We’re not safe by any stretch of the imagination but we’re aiming to finish higher than last season. The players gave everything, not one of them came off having given 90%. I said to them, 101% we don’t ask for but 99% isn’t good enough. They did that tonight and I can’t sing their praises highly enough.”

Brian Carrigan:

“I can’t remember the last time I scored from open play let alone a hat-trick! I’m pleased for Leigh to get his hat-trick and for myself. That’s four in two games now so that’s very pleasing. Leigh’s got the match ball, he scored the first hat-trick. But that’s because he wouldn’t square it to me!”

“We’re doing well together, and Stevie Convery did well up there tonight as well. Everybody’s fighting for their place under the new manager and giving 100%, which he asked for.”

“I don’t think I have scored a hat-trick before, I got done out of one once – big Pat Keogh stole a goal off me (!) so I think that’s the first one. I don’t want to say anything about my future just now, I’m going back to Clydebank for the last month and then I’ll see what happens in the summer. My registration is held between Clydebank and Stockport – I think everyone’s got a bit of me! They were telling me to shoot (the free kick for Leigh’s second goa) and try and keep it low and anything’s possible once the ball comes off that mud.”

Leigh Hinds:

“I’m delighted. I’m pleased to get the three goals but the three points was the main thing we needed. That was my first senior hat-trick. When I was younger in the Youth teams I scored a few but this was my first senior one. I made sure I’ve got the ball!”

“It was a massive game, considering the way we played against them on Saturday. Away games are always going to be hard especially with the conditions, so I’m pleased we’ve won but the way we did it was even better. The wind was hard but we had to deal with it. The boys are confident we can go higher in the league and we can hopefully only improve on this.”

“We let the manager down on Saturday but tonight I think we did him justice. The enthusiasm, the work rate etc is good, everyone is pleased Alan has taken over. I’ll get everyone to sign the ball on Thursday when we’re back at training. Carrots is a very good player and it helps myself and the whole team to have him there, no disrespect to the other boys in the squad.”

Alex Totten:

“It’s a shame to have to come and see you really. We had a great result on Saturday, but you never, never know what to expect from our team. We had wind advantage in the first half that’s when we should have capitalised but we didn’t do it and they got a great start to the second half. But to lose 6-1 is a disgrace to be honest.”

“I’ve had a lot of success here but it’s hard to take that. It was an ideal opportunity to take over the likes of Clyde and St.Mirren. We put out the same team to keep continuity in the selection, we’re at home, and we get something like that. It’s a shame really. That was without a doubt the worst all season. Clyde deserved to win.”
