Recap
The Bully Wee’s winless run in the league stretched to five games at The Falkirk Stadium thanks to a first-half brace by Stephen McGinn.
Danny Lennon opted to name an unchanged starting line-up that defeated Caernarfon Town in the SPFL Trust Trophy last weekend.
Falkirk got the first chance of the afternoon in the fifth minute as McGuffie cut through the right-hand side, however, his shot scraped off the woodwork. The hosts then opened the scoring two minutes later, courtesy of McGinn, who caught onto a floating corner and slotted the ball past Mullen.
Decent play from Morgaro Gomis and Ray Grant enabled them to claw back possession on the edge of the box and square the ball to Ross Cunningham, whose strong effort was blocked by Hogarth.
McGinn secured his brace in the 19th minute to double the Bairns’ advantage. McCann flung the ball into the middle of a crammed box, but the midfielder was on hand to snatch a touch on the ball and blast a powerful shot into back of the net.
At the other end, Kurtis Roberts hit an effort at the face of goal, but he struggled to muster any force behind the ball and it was comfortably saved by the ‘keeper. Nesbitt was next to try his luck in the 25th minute with a volley from a few yards out as the hosts maintained their firm grasp on the majority of possession.
Burrell then managed to shrug past Peter Grant and squeeze the ball through on goal, however, Mullen crouched down low to block his effort. As proceedings reached the half-hour mark, the ‘keeper was on guard yet again to deny Nesbitt’s close-range shot.
The home side didn’t let up and continued to apply pressure going into the interval, after Burrell’s attempted effort went narrowly wide.
The Bairns slowly began to pick up where they left off by flinging barrel-loads of pressure onto Clyde’s defence with Peter Grant denying Burrell with a last-gasp tackle, before Mullen leapt up to block Morrison’s crisp volley.
Substitute Jordan Allan danced his way into the box as the match neared the hour-mark, however, Falkirk bodies smothered the area to deny the forward and Paul Kennedy from making their way near goal.
In the 68th minute, Juan Alegria was able to close in from inside the box, however, his effort missed the target. The action cooled down as the match entered the final 20 minutes, however, the hosts were still creating pathways into the box with the Bully Wee managing to clear any imminent danger.
Clyde were then later awarded a free-kick from 25 yards with Cunningham’s effort bristling the target. Kennedy came close to adding a third in the 82nd minute for the Bairns, however, his effort sailed over the goalmouth. With minutes remaining on the clock, Cunningham blasted an effort straight at Hogarth.
