The Bully Wee bounced back from disappointing results on the road and picked up a well earned point against Queen of the South at New Douglas Park today.

Euan Cameron and Kyle Doherty came into the starting XI for Rico Quitongo and Brian McLean, with Conner Duthie making his return to action after being out since July as a sub.

Both teams had a flurry of chances in the opening stages, with Cameron’s cross being deflected onto the bar, then Martin Rennie nodded the ball down to Ross Cunningham but he couldn’t keep his shot down.

At the other end Neil Parry got down to save a low drive from Kieran McKechnie.

Clyde continued to pressure the Queens’ defence and Cameron Salkeld crossed for Rennie who managed to get his head to the ball but Gordon Botterill managed to claim it on the line.

The Doonhamers then reacted through Connor Murray but Parry saved his effort, and he was also equal to a flick from McKechnie following a lob into the box.

The deadlock was broken on the 18th minute when McGeever headed a Cunningham cross across the box, and Erik Sula was on hand to send a diving header into the back of the net.

Cunningham had a good chance to double the lead shortly after but his dipping shot was turned over the bar, and then Liam Scullion went on a driving run but his left footed effort from outside the box went wide.

Parry was called into action again before the interval, holding a low piledriver from Stephen Hendrie.

The visitors equalised nine minutes after the restart when Ruari Paton took a good first touch from a cross and finished well beyond Parry.

The Bully Wee then had a great chance to restore their lead when Sula flicked a header on to McGeever who was one-on-one with Botterill, but he blazed over the bar.

Seconds later he made a vital block at the other end, heading Lee Connelly’s lob off the line.

Parry then had to be alert to deny Jack Brydon and Ross Irving, before Rennie picked out Olly McDonald at the back post, but he couldn’t find the target with only Botterill to beat.

Queen of the South were unhappy with the end to the match as referee Chris Graham penalised Paton for a handball on the edge of the area in stoppage time before Brydon rocketed a shot into the top corner after the whistle was blown, with manager Marvin Bartley being shown a red card after the final whistle.
