Clyde v Queen of the South

Clyde produced a remarkable rearguard action to hold out for a goalless draw at Broadwood Stadium. The Bully Wee twice cleared off the line in the first half and were thankful for Danny Kirkup for his coolness under pressure.

It certainly seemed that it was not going to be Queen’s day when Sean O’Connor saw his shot hit the crossbar. For Clyde Dougie Imrie forced keeper Jamie MacDonald into a full-length save to turn the ball round the post but it was the Bully Wee who were happier to go in at the break with the score still blank.

In the second half, Queens as an attacking force faded but even with that Danny Kirkup again had to make a third goal-line stop to deny Neil Scally. Eventually Clyde began to make an impact as the match opened up and it was that man Kirkup who came closest as his header crashed back off the crossbar.

The longer the game went on the more apparent it was that a draw would be the final outcome however Clyde nearly stole it when the pocket dynamo Sean McKenna (pictured below) slid in to a McGowan cross but saw the ball just go over the bar and in the final moments it was McKenna again who forced MacDonald to panic as a 20 yard strike narrowly missed the goal.
