An injury-time winner earned Cowdenbeath a place in the Second Round of the Scottish League Cup today, following a spirited performance by The Bully Wee.

Barry Ferguson named the same starting line-up that defeated Ayr United in the Petrofac Training Cup last week.

For the large part, the first half of the match was evenly contested. Kyle Miller came close to opening the scoring for the visitors, but Jamie Barclay pulled off a good stop with an outstretched foot.

As the half-time break approached, Clyde enjoyed a good spell of pressure which eventually resulted in a goal. Scott McManus hit the bar from the edge of the box and moments later, following a fine team move, Kevin Watt’s shot was parried away from close range.

With the last kick of the ball before the whistle, David Gray took aim from 25 yards and fired a fantastic shot into the top corner of the net to make it 1-0.

However, The Blue Brazil managed to get onto level terms early in the second half. A mistake in the Clyde midfield handed possession to Lewis Milne and he crashed a shot into the net via the underside of the bar.

As both sides looked for a winning goal, Barclay was forced into stopping Miller again and Clyde substitute Stuart McColm forced Thomas Flynn into an excellent low save.

In injury time, a Clyde corner led to John Sweeney’s effort being blocked on the line and it turned into a doubly cruel blow, as Cowdenbeath launched a counter attack that resulted in a match-winning goal. Kyle Miller was the man to apply the finishing touch following some composed play in the build-up by the Championship side.
