Recap

The Bully Wee tasted defeat for the first time in this season’s Glasgow Cup as Celtic B came from behind to record a victory at the Hamilton Community Stadium.

Darren Young rotated his side with Lennon Connolly given his first outing after signing last week.

Celtic had the better of the chances in the first half but found Brian Kinnear in good form, and it was Clyde who broke the deadlock on the stroke of the interval. Tommy Robson’s cross into the box was met by Sam Campbell who directly a looping header on target. Marcus Gill was able to claw it away before James Hilton saw his follow up shot blocked on the line, but the ball fell to Logan Dunachie who rifled an effort home.

The young Hoops side then turned the game on its head within seven minutes of the restart. The Bully Wee defence switched off momentarily as a ball forward looked destined for an offside Tom Pickford, only for Thomas Hatton to nip in and roll an effort past the advancing Kinnear which went in off the post.

A few moments later Celtic took the lead after some trickery from Sean McArdle on the right wing ended with him beating his man and cracking a shot under Kinnear.

The hosts had chances in the closing moments to force an equaliser, but Craig Howie saw his header hooked off the line whilst Dunachie beat Gill to a cross but his header dropped narrowly past the post.

Clyde have already qualified for the semi-final stage of this season’s Glasgow Cup after victories over Queen’s Park and Rangers B, with a home fixture against Partick Thistle still to play.
