Clyde exited the Glasgow Cup at the semi-final stage at the hands of Celtic B in Airdrie this evening.

Darren Young rotated his squad as much as possible from Saturday’s match. Ross Lyon featured in the middle of his two-match league suspension, whilst a trialist was fielded at right-back.

The first real chance fell to Rhys Dargie when he cut inside and curled a shot towards goal but Tommy Robson got his head in the way to deflect behind.

Robbie Hemfrey was then called into action to stop a stinging drive from Mitchell Frame, before Scott Williamson saw his shot flash across the face of goal and go narrowly past the post.

The Hoops took the lead in the 27th minute when Liam Bonetig got to the by-line and whipped the ball across goal, with Lewis Dobbie on hand at the back post to provide the finishing touch.

Andy Murdoch was unlucky to see his volley from a corner fall the wrong side of the post as the first half drew to a close.

Hemfrey pulled off two fine saves in the early stages of the second half but had no chance as Celtic doubled their advantage ten minutes after the restart when Daniel Cummings tapped home a cross from close range.

Cummings added his second of the evening midway through the half but Clyde quickly pulled one back when Kyle Connell released Taylor Sutherland through on goal. He held off pressure from a defender and placed a shot beyond Marcus Gill.

Connell should have reduced the deficit further a few minutes later when Marley Redfern showed good skill down the left and cut the ball back, but he skewed wide with the goal at his mercy.

Crosses proved to be Clyde’s undoing again as another ball into the box was finished by Emmanuel Obidiwe. The Hoops then made it five when Owen Hartington was given all the space and time to pick out the bottom corner with a left-footed effort from distance.

Sutherland and Connell both forced good stops out of Gill as the game drew to a close.
