Recap
The Bully Wee played out a goalless draw with Celtic B at Lennoxtown last night in the Glasgow Cup, with the Hoops taking a bonus point after a penalty shootout.
Chris McGinn featured once again as a trialist, with Darren Young making four changes to the side which played against Rangers B last Tuesday.
The first half was played in torrential rain and neither goalkeeper was tested until a couple of minutes before the interval; Milosz Sliwinski got two strong palms behind a stinging effort from Samuel Isiguzo, before Joe Morrison held Robbie Leitch’s effort from the edge of the box at the other end.
Conditions improved in the second period which saw a lot more action. Sliwinski had to stretch his full frame to tip a shot from Dargie heading for the top corner away from danger.
Dylan Watt then had an opportunity for Clyde shortly after being introduced off the bench, but his snapshot hit the side netting. Seconds later Sliwinski made a great save with his foot from a one-on-one situation with Daniel Cummings.
As the game wore on Celtic began to put more pressure on The Bully Wee with Sliwinski called into action several times but the young Pole was not to be beaten, denying Francis Turley with a fine stop and then showing great reflexes to adjust his balance and make another point blank save.
The ‘keeper was aided by Logan Dunachie and Lee Hamilton who threw their bodies on the line to make blocks, before Clyde had a chance to win it a couple of minutes from time. Good work from Jordan Houston and Liam Scullion on the right saw the latter fizz a low cross along the ground for the onrushing Dom Docherty on the edge of the box, but his shot went narrowly over the bar.
The match was decided by penalties; Jordan Allan stepped up first and saw his effort saved. The next seven spot kicks were all converted, with Tommy Robson, Docherty and Andy Murdoch netting for Clyde, before Scullion was denied by Morrison as the young Hoops claimed the bonus point.
