PREVIEW: Clyde v The Spartans

Clyde return to New Douglas Park tomorrow for the visit of The Spartans. A victory for the eighth place Bully Wee could allow them to leapfrog the visitors into sixth, while a win for the away side would see them consolidate their league placing.

Although they have only won one of their last five, Darren Young’s side have built a strong home record with only two defeats. Since the last meeting with Spartans, they have increased the distance on the league basement from three to 11 points.

Douglas Samuel’s charges will arrive in Hamilton on the back of consecutive defeats having also lost three of their last five away matches. However the capital club have never lost any of the six league meetings that have occurred between the clubs, with Clyde’s only victory being a Scottish Cup Second Round replay in January 1999.

Spartans narrowly won the last outing at Ainslie Park. Goals from Paul Watson and Cameron Russell had the hosts comfortably in the lead before Lee Hamilton replied just before the break. Russell sealed the points by regaining the home side’s two-goal advantage just before the hour, despite a late strike from Jordan Allan.

Neither team could be separated in the first meeting of the season after Martin Rennie cancelled out Mark Stowe’s first half opener.

Clyde have won one, drawn five and lost three of nine matches played and will be hoping to make history with a first league victory against the visitors.
