Dan McSorley

The club has only just learned that former player Dan McSorley, who was with Clyde for three seasons in the mid-1950s, sadly passed away on the 7th of January this year.

Dan signed from Shettleston Juniors in January 1955 and was with the club when they beat Celtic to lift the Scottish Cup for the second time at the end of that season.

His debut came against Falkirk in a league match at Shawfield on the 30th of March 1955 when he was aged just 18, which resulted in a 2-0 victory for Clyde, and Dan duly kept his place for the next league match a few days later, against Hearts at Tynecastle, which ended in a 3-0 win for Hearts.

Dan then lost his place for two consecutive matches against Aberdeen; the first was the Scottish Cup semi-final replay that saw Clyde victorious and head into the Scottish Cup final, the second was a victory for Aberdeen that clinched the league title for the Dons.
Directly after that Dan played against Dundee at Dens Park and scored his solitary goal to equalise Dundee’s earlier counter, but a further strike by The Dark Blues meant Clyde lost 2-1 on that occasion.

Dan made only one further appearance, against Third Lanark at Cathkin Park in September 1956, a match that Clyde won 3-1. Upon his release in April 1957 Dan joined Berwick Rangers, before having spells in the junior ranks with Johnstone Burgh, Cambuslang Rangers, Beith and East Kilbride juniors.

The thoughts and condolences from all at the club go to Dan’s family and friends at this sad time.
