Clyde 5-0 Berwick Rangers
The Bully Wee cruised to an emphatic victory over Berwick Rangers at a sunny Broadwood this afternoon.
Danny Lennon made one change to his side, with last weekend’s matchwinner Kristoffer Syvertsen returning to the starting line-up in place of Scott Banks.
Clyde broke the deadlock after just five minutes when Syvertsen played a ball across the edge of the box. It came to David Goodwillie but he dummied and Barry Cuddihy ran onto it, unleashing an unstoppable strike to open his goal account for the season.
The lead was doubled four minutes after the interval when Scott Rumsby got on the end of John Rankin’s corner, and stooped to head past Berwick ‘keeper Ryan Goodfellow from close range.
Rankin got on the scoresheet himself moments later, curling a low free-kick right on the edge of the area past the wall and into the bottom corner.
Goodfellow then made a good reflex save to keep out Chris McStay’s header, and at the other end Mark Lamont cleared a Berwick effort from a corner off the line.
Goodwillie was next to hit the back of the net, after he shrugged off the attention of both Berwick centre-backs and hit a vicious strike from 25 yards which nestled into the top corner.
Goodwillie came close again shortly after when his low shot from a similar distance whistled past the post, then Goodfellow denied Ray Grant after the striker had set him up.
McStay put the icing on the cake in the final minute when he scored Clyde’s fifth goal of the afternoon. Ross Lyon played the ball up to Goodwillie, who nodded the ball into the path of the midfielder. McStay then drove towards goal and slotted the ball beyond the advancing Goodfellow.
