David Thanks Teammates for Chances

David Goodwillie spoke to the press at Central Park on Tuesday night, following The Bully Wee’s 3-0 win in Ladbrokes League 2.

“Cowdenbeath came at us from the beginning,” he said. “We knew they would, but I always felt that if we could ride the storm, we would have that bit extra to get the win.”

The Clyde striker took his tally for the season to 25 goals during the match and he was asked about his recent excellent form:- 

“I hope it doesn’t stop! The players behind me make me feel confident that I will get a few chances per game. They are good players technically and I just keeping making the runs.

“From a young age I’ve always felt like I could score in every game, although it doesn’t always happen, so you’ve got to enjoy it when it does.

“I think this will be my highest total in a season and that’s all down to the boys behind me. You can’t do it all yourself and they do the hard work.”

The victory moved Clyde into the play-off zone in the table and David confirmed that there was a good atmosphere in the dressing room:-

“The confidence is sky high just now. Hopefully we can keep going; winning becomes a habit and I think we’ve got that now.

“I think we had it earlier in the season but sometimes we played well and didn’t get a result. Danny has made sure that, even when we’re not playing well, we can still get over the line and that’s a good thing to have.

“We’ve got that extra drive from playing for something at the moment and we just need to win as many games as we can and see where it takes us.”

When asked about his earlier career and now playing in League 2, the 29-year-old gave a similar answer to comments he has made in previous interviews:-

“I play football for the freedom you feel when you cross that line. Football is the best game in the world and it takes away anything else negative in your life.

“Even when I used to play five-a-sides with my mates I still wanted to score the most goals! I’m quite competitive and I want to play for as long as I can, whatever level that is at.

“I’m a bit disappointed that I only scored one tonight, but that’s just the way I always am.”

Looking ahead, David gave an honest answer about what his future career might hold:-

“Any footballer wants to play at the highest level they can and I won’t shy away from that and say that I’m different. I need to be respectful to Clyde though, they have given me a chance and believed in me and I will always be thankful for that. I’ll give everything I can for Clyde for as long as I can.

“The way that the supporters have been with me, and others like the chairman, it means a lot. The fans have taken me in and I appreciate that every time I step onto the pitch for them.”
