Mark Aims to Keep His Place

From youth football at Harmony Row under-21s to junior football at Clydebank and senior football at Clyde, Mark Burbidge believes the upwards trajectory of his career can now continue with a Bully Wee promotion.

The flying winger swept the boards at the Clydebank awards night after his first season and during his second campaign he helped guide The Bankies to promotion. Following his summer move, he is looking to do the same at Broadwood. 

Speaking to the official website, the 24-year-old explained:-

“I was at Harmony Row 21s for two years and then Clydebank for a couple of years and I enjoyed my time there. I had two good years at Clydebank and obviously they got promoted in my final year there, but I was keen to take the next step up.

“The move to Clyde has been really good and I am really enjoying it. The boys have been great and everyone at the club has welcomed me well.”

After being named as one of Jim Chapman’s substitutes in the opening nine competitive games of the season, ‘Bubba’ has started the recent outings against Stirling Albion and Edinburgh City and he is now determined to fight off the competition and keep his place in the team.

He continued: “I’m looking to play as much as I can and show the manager that I am capable of playing at this level.

“I am hoping to keep my place in the team for as long as possible, but there is a lot of good competition, a lot of good players. For now, I just need to keep my head down and keep plodding away and working hard for the team. It is all about working hard and showing that I can do it. 

“I haven’t set any specific targets yet. Obviously I wasn’t in the team at first so I am just needing to take every game as it comes and hopefully by the end of the season we can get promotion.”

On the aim for promotion, Mark believes hard work can set him and his Clyde team mates apart from the other sides in League 2:-

“I think we have a right good chance of going up this year, we have a good team. 

“Obviously the result didn’t go our way on Saturday. It was one of those games where they had three shots on goal and they scored three goals – it was brutal. This Saturday is a really big game for us. Cowdenbeath haven’t been playing great themselves so we will be looking to get the three points especially at home.

“There’s definitely a belief in the squad that we can have a good season. I think a lot of the teams in the league are at a similar level, but in the game you should get your rewards if you work hard. Personally, if I work hard I can stay in the team and if we all do that, I think we can get promoted.”
