Young Start Programme Begins
The Clyde FC Community Foundation has secured funding of £48,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Young Start programme, to set up sports activities for children in the Cumbernauld area.
Over the last week, coaching staff from the Foundation have been busy around three local schools kicking-off this fantastic project.
Tom Elliott, Head of Community Development said: “I’m delighted to be able to offer primary schools the opportunity to become engaged with Clyde FC through Young Start funding. We have already engaged with three local schools in the area; Carbrain, Kidrum and Woodside Primary Schools.
“Our aim is to educate them on the benefits of taking part in sport, offer them the opportunity to become involved in our own programme and engage the children in a fun workbook to complete during our time at the school.”
Stuart Aitchison, Active Schools Coordinator Cumbernauld Academy Cluster added:-
“The Clyde FC Community Foundation and Young Start project is an exciting opportunity for young people in Carbrain and Kildrum, following the success of last year’s Carbon Clyde programme.
“Young Start will focus on increasing opportunities for young people to be more physically active while also having a say on what new opportunities they would like to see being offered in their community.”
The programme has engaged with over 200 boys and girls to date and others will benefit after the October holidays.
