Clyde 2-1 Annan Athletic
Ex-Annan Athletic men Barry Cuddihy and Smart Osadolor scored their first goals for the Bully Wee against their previous club this afternoon at Broadwood, as Clyde recorded a 2-1 victory in the Ladbrokes League 2.
Jim Chapman made one change to the starting line-up which lost to Berwick Rangers last Saturday; Smart Osadolor made way for Darren Ramsay, who returned from suspension.
After a fairly uneventful opening half hour, the game suddenly burst into life when David Goodwillie turned and got a quick shot away in the box, which Jim Atkinson parried behind for a corner kick. Just a couple of minutes later the Annan stopper pulled off a stunning save from Barry Cuddihy’s sweetly struck volley.
Cuddihy did not have to wait much longer to open his goal account for the Bully Wee, as within two minutes of his aforementioned chance he had the ball in the back of the net, this time beating Atkinson on the half-volley.
Clyde were now piling the pressure on the visitors and Cuddihy almost got in on the act again when he met a cross from Jordan Stewart, but his header narrowly snuck past the post.
Darren Ramsay had a golden chance to double the advantage going into the half-time interval. The midfielder made a perfectly timed run into the box to meet Cuddihy’s cross but he headed the ball into the ground at pace from six yards out, and the ball bounced over the bar.
The Bully Wee did get a second goal just after an hour. Smart Osadolor, on as a first half substitute, saw his initial attempt blocked at the edge of the box but he was first to react to the loose ball and rolled his shot past Atkinson into the corner of the goal.
Annan tried to hit back through Rabin Omar but Blair Currie saved his header from close range. Ryan Stevenson then had two opportunities, his first was direct from a free-kick 35 yards out which was comfortably held by Currie, and he later hit a shot off the post, after Jordan Stewart’s sliced clearance fell to him in the box.
The Galabankies did pull a goal back to make the last quarter of an hour nervy for the Bully Wee; Omar this time from a similar position did beat Currie when he got on the end of Owen Moxon’s free-kick. Clyde did hold on though, to claim their first 3 points of the league season.
