Miller Glad to be Back
Clyde goalscorer Darren Miller spoke to the press following the 2-1 victory over Dumbarton in the Betfred Cup on Saturday.
The midfielder twice came close to scoring direct from corners and he was asked if this was an intentional ploy:-
“Sometimes. I used to get told to shoot from corners as a kid so I still do it and hope for the best. If it turns out bad I’ll moan at everyone else!
“I was always going to go back post (for my goal) but I didn’t think it’d go in the top corner. The wind helped a bit but the goal came at a good time.”
The Bully Wee go into their final match in Group E of the Betfred Cup against Ayr United tomorrow, still with a chance to progress to the next round of the competition. Miller continued:-
“Going into the competition, I don’t think we were expected to be anywhere near where we are just now.
“We have nothing to fear going down to Ayr. All of the boys want to play in these games against clubs in higher divisions and there is no point in showing up if you don’t think you’re going to win.”
Miller is no stranger to Broadwood, having spent time on loan with The Bully Wee last season. He also spoke about the changes in the dressing room, and his hopes for the season ahead:-
“We’ve got a good team. We’re good together but sometimes we just don’t do the easy things right early on, then we have to do the hard things, like going a goal behind and coming back. It’s a good changing room, all the boys are in it together and we have the potential this season to really make a mark.
“If you hear Jim Chapman at half-time or before the game, he knows what he’s talking about, he knows what it takes to win and he knows the right players to put on the park. John Joyce is really good as well; they work well together and bring out the best in people. I don’t want to come here and get beat, I’d tackle my granny to win.
“Clyde always has potential and I think it’s one of the best clubs you can play at, at this level. There’s a good stadium, a good set up… you’ve got everything here. This year will be different from last year, we’ve got a lot more attacking players and I think we’ll score a lot more goals.”
