John Steps Down
John Alexander has confirmed that he will step down as a director of the club with immediate effect. This is a change that has been in the planning for some time and was signalled at the end of the 2015-16 season, when he stepped down as chairman.
While serving on the Supporters’ Trust committee, the club experienced financial difficulties in May 2004, culminating in a Creditors Voluntary Arrangement (CVA). John, in his role with the Trust, was instrumental in steering the club to safety at that time.
A third generation and lifelong supporter of The Bully Wee, John was subsequently appointed to the main Board in 2007, taking the chair in 2010.
Vice chairman John Taylor said: “John intimated in January 2016 that he planned to step down from the post of chairman at the end of that season, with the intention of moving off the Board completely in May 2017. With that in mind, we spent last season looking for his successor. Following a thorough and lengthy search, John and I identified Norrie Innes as someone who met the Board’s criteria for the role. After a few meetings with Norrie, he confirmed that he was excited about the prospect of coming in to fill the vacant chair.
“On behalf of the entire Board, I’d like to thank John for his unstinting and exceptional service to the club over the last ten years, and for securing Norrie as his successor.”
Norrie Innes added: “John cares about Clyde. It is his passion and he demonstrated that to me through his strong desire to include me on the Board and for me to take over the chairman’s position. His sacrifice and input into the club should be respectfully acknowledged and applauded.
“We wish him well and look forward to his continued support for the club.”
