Under-20 Season Ends
Clyde’s under-20 side has now completed all of its fixtures in the 2016-17 Development League West season.
The campaign ended with two re-arranged matches against Stranraer, which unfortunately both ended in defeat. With four or five squad members missing through injury, both matches left the youngsters frustrated as they couldn’t capitalise on spells of dominance.
The away game ended 2-0, followed by a 3-2 home defeat with The Bully Wee’s goals coming from Robbie Davidson and Ronan Sweeney.
In the final league table, Clyde finished in seventh place.
Head coach, Richard Fox spoke to the official website this evening:-
“It was a season of two halves to be honest. It took a while for the boys to gel and get used to the way that they were being asked to play. A lot of them had also been released by other clubs and we had to give them some belief again.
“After Christmas, our results picked up and we were able to compete with even the full-time sides in the league. Our overall performances really pleased me during that period.
“We’ve had seven boys involved with first team squads during the season and that’s been fully deserved for the hard work that each of them has put in.
“The biggest positive for me is that all of the squad, other than two, are still young enough to play next season. We’ve also started a recruitment process and it’s an exciting time, with plenty of potential in the group. I believe that they can be competing for a place in the first team in six months time.
“We’ve still got friendly matches to play and we’ll be at Broadwood on Saturday as a group to support the first team.”
