Cowdenbeath 1-0 Clyde

Cowdenbeath moved to within a point of The Bully Wee in the Ladbrokes League 2 table yesterday, with a single goal proving to be enough to earn a victory at Central Park.

Kyle Gourlay and Kerr Waddell were handed debuts, with Kevin Rutkiewicz continuing in defence and David Goodwillie named on the bench. Jordan McMillan was also a late addition at the back, after Chris Smith failed to make it through the warm-up.

The match kicked off in bright sunshine with a noisy travelling support getting right behind their team.

Clyde started on the front foot and had the bulk of possession without creating too many clear cut chances. When the home side did threaten at the other end, they found new ‘keeper Gourlay in confident form.

With little to separate the sides, the second half began badly for The Bully Wee when a slack pass across the defensive line eluded Waddell and Carrick nipped in to fire past Gourlay.

This was a signal for Clyde to step up the pressure and Phil Johnston was unlucky to see his near post header miss narrowly.

All three subs, Finnie, Goodwillie and Ferguson, were used and as time wore on the game opened up as Clyde pushed for the equaliser. It looked like coming when a cross from the left was met cleanly by Martin McNiff, whose volley brought out a remarkable point blank save from home goalkeeper Sneddon.

After that, Cowdenbeath saw out the game to secure the three points and draw The Bully Wee to within one point with just five games remaining.
