Clyde 1-2 Montrose

Clyde’s bad form in Ladbrokes League 2 continued at Broadwood this evening, with an extremely poor first half performance leaving too much to do against The Gable Endies.

Interim manager Bob Malcolm made x changes to the team following the defeat at Annan, with John Gibson, Jordan McMillan and Ross Perry coming in for the injured Connor Quinn, Phil Johnston and David Gormley.

Peter MacDonald had an early half chance for The Bully Wee, but it was Montrose that took the lead after 5 minutes, with poor defending allowing Kerr Hay to score easily.

Clyde came very close to equalising just a couple of minutes later, when MacDonald’s diving header just missed the post and went wide.

However, the rest of the half offered very little. John Gibson did well to keep out a header from Greg Pascazio, but the visitors’ lead was doubled shortly before the break when MacDonald’s attempted clearance on the line hit Pascazio and then the back of the net.

McNiff and Gormley (pictured) were introduced to the game at half-time as Clyde changed shape and there was some improvment in the performance, but with chances still few and far between as Montrose defended their lead in numbers.

Midway through the second period, Gormley was put through on goal by Sean Higgins but an away defender made a crucial block at the last moment, to deflect the ball over the bar.

On 73 minutes, The Bully Wee were given hope of getting a point when Linton’s corner was headed in by MacDonald.

It was MacDonald that came closest to getting the equaliser with a late free-kick that narrowly missed the top corner, but Montrose held on to extend their lead over Clyde in the league table.
