Successful Fans Match
Last night’s Fans v Fans match at Broadwood was a big success, with 34 Clyde fans enjoying the annual event. The final result was a 3-1 victory for Barry Ferguson’s ‘Bully Wee’ team, over ‘Gypsy Army’ who were managed by Bob Malcolm.
Bully Wee got on the scoresheet early after a defensive mix up left John Boyce with time and space in the penalty area to blast home the opener. Soon after, Bully Wee doubled their lead when Stevie Russell made it 2-0, heading in from a corner. The score remained unchanged for the rest of the half and both teams headed inside for some words of encouragement from the managers.
When the second half kicked-off, Bully Wee again started the sharpest and Dean McKirdy made it three when he reacted quickest after a McReynolds shot was parried by Gypsy Army goalkeeper, Alan Cooper.
Gypsy Army pulled one back when Steven Robb put a well placed header beyond the reach of Scott Stafford in the Bully Wee goal. Graham Murray then had a chance to cut Bully Wee’s lead to one, but his chip didn’t have the height to beat the keeper.
Dom Jack, Darren O’Connor and Dean McKirdy all had chances to increase Bully Wee’s lead but they couldn’t find a way past goalkeeper Cooper who was in fine form.
After the match both sets of players enjoyed sandwiches in the hospitality suite and Man of the Match trophies were presented. Dean McKirdy picked up the award for the Bully Wee and Alan Cooper for Gypsy Army.
The club’s thanks go to all those who took part in the event and everyone that came along to support the two teams.
Event organiser, David Alexander said: “A special thanks goes to the Clyde management team of Barry Ferguson, Bob Malcolm, Alan Fraser and Calum Wood for giving up their time to coach the teams. Thanks also go to referee Sean Hart, match announcer David Jack and Liz Mackinnon from NLL for providing bar facilities.”
