Danny Malloy

The club was saddened to learn of the death of former player Danny Malloy last week.

The news follows the recent passing of Willie Finlay, who Danny, for a short time in the early 1960s, competed with for a centre half slot at Shawfield.

That spell at Clyde came at the end of a long and successful career, which began with Dundee in 1953. His talents were soon spotted by Cardiff City and the Welsh side paid £17,000 to secure his services. It proved to be a good move, as Danny went on to feature in over 200 matches for The Bluebirds and captained them to promotion to the top flight of English football.

After a following short spell at Doncaster, Danny signed for Clyde in 1962 and he would make 18 appearances for the club before hanging up his boots.

He passed away on 14th January, aged 84.

A further article on Danny will be published in Saturday’s edition of The Clyde View.
