Clyde 1-2 Montrose

Clyde’s poor form continued this evening, as Montrose left Broadwood with full points from the League Two match.

With Brian McQueen suspended and Scott McManus ruled out with a knee injury, Barry Ferguson was forced to change the team. Craig Halkett (pictured) returned to the defence and Kevin Watt was handed a start up front.

Alan Martin, signed shortly before kick-off, was also given a debut between the sticks.

The match got off to the worst possible start as The Bully Wee’s bad run of luck continued, with Halkett’s header hitting the back of Gary Wood’s head and looping into the net for an opening goal.

However, only a few minutes later the score was levelled again as Watt got on the end of Scott Durie’s cross and flicked a header into the far corner of the net.

Following a tight remainder of the first half, the second period opened in a similar manner, but the visitors grabbed the lead again after 59 minutes. A low cross wasn’t cleared by the Clyde defence and, after the ball came off Euan Smith, Terry Masson was in the right place to finish from close range.

As Clyde tried to find a way back into the match once more, Ross McCord almost got another goal for Montrose when his shot from outside the box crashed off the bar.

The Bully Wee’s best two chances to equalise came through Scott Ferguson, who couldn’t find the target after a direct run, and Andy Gibson, who couldn’t keep the ball down after a goalkeeping slip by Lucas Birnstingl.
