Stef and Kieran Move On

Stefan McCluskey and Kieran MacDonald today informed the club that they would be moving on before the start of the new season.

Both players were offered new contracts, but chose to reject the offers.

McCluskey, 23, joined The Bully Wee in 2012 after a successful spell with Junior side Shotts Bon Accord. The forward put in a fine display at Bayview on Saturday to complete an excellent campaign, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 13 goals and also contributing with 11 assists.

20-year-old MacDonald joined the club towards the end of 2012 after leaving Motherwell and quickly went on to establish himself in the left back slot. He similarly finished the season at East Fife, with a fine tally of 42 starts, including 4 goals and 8 assists.

They leave Clyde with a total of 73 and 59 appearances respectively.

Stef said on Twitter, “My two seasons at Clyde have made me enjoy football more and more and I’d like to thank the staff, players and fans for my time at the club. After a chat today with the Gaffer, who’s been nothing but brilliant with me, I have decided to move on. I will never forget my time at Clyde.”

Kieran added, “I just want to thank everyone at the club, the fans, players and special thanks to the Gaffer and Chic for giving me a chance.”

Clyde manager Jim Duffy said, “Kieran and Stef have decided to exercise their right and seek pastures new which they are fully entitled to do. There was no animosity, as both have been terrific for the club and have made a positive contribution to the success we have had this year.

“What’s happened is part and parcel of the game, especially given where the club is at present and some players will look to get better deals elsewhere. We can take pride in the way that the club and their teammates have been a platform for them to progress. Kieran had been released by another club and Stefan was playing in the Juniors, but both have progressed well in their time at the Clyde.

“They will both be difficult acts to follow but everyone at Clyde wishes them well for the future.”
