Perseverance Pays Off for Pat
Clyde forward Pat Scullion spoke to the media after yesterday’s victory over Elgin City at Broadwood.
The Bully Wee scored two goals in quick succession in the second half and Pat contributed to both. He said:-
“I had a couple of chances that I should have done better with, but perseverance paid off and I managed to score later on. I thought our front four – and Kevin Watt when he came on – were threatening all game.
“Our first goal had a great build up, Kevin did well and I managed to put in a decent cross for Stefan.
“Kevin had the initial shot for the second goal and fortunately it’s dropped right in front of me; I was just trying to hit the target with a bit of power. It was good to get on the scoresheet.
“I was with Elgin for a short period of time earlier in my career. I enjoyed my spell there but it’s always nice to win when it’s against a former club.”
The result kept Clyde in joint second place in League Two, but only four points separate the top six teams. Pat continued:-
“This is the tightest league I’ve known in all my time playing. Our unbeaten run is seven games now and we are near the top but a couple of defeats could see us back down near the bottom. It’s important to keep picking up points.”
The 27-year-old has been something of a utility player since joining the club in 2011, but he explained that he is happy in his current role in attack:-
“I think that I sort of stumbled into playing up front. We had some injuries when I first started playing there but that’s been my position for a while now and I enjoy it. Sometimes it’s tough to keep up with our wingers though!
“Regardless of where I play, I’m just happy to be involved.”
