Clyde 1-2 Montrose
It was a disappointing afternoon for Clyde supporters at Broadwood today, as Montrose claimed an IRN-BRU Third Division victory thanks to two second half goals.
Jim Duffy made two changes to the team that faced Rangers a fortnight ago, with Iain Gray and Kevin Watt replacing Lee Sharp and the suspended John Neill.
The Bully Wee dominated the majority of the first half in terms of possession and territory, although created little in front of David Crawford’s goal. Clyde’s best two chances fell to Kevin Watt (pictured); with a shot saved by Crawford and, from a McCluskey cross, a diving header that went wide of the post.
After the break, the visitors had the best chance of the match when Alan Campbell seemed certain to score with a back post header, but he somehow missed the target from six yards out.
However, the opening goal did soon come for the Gable Endies, with Craig McLeish finding space at the edge of the box and placing a low shot past Jamie Barclay.
Jim Duffy introduced Sean Fitzharris, Pat Scullion and Ryan MacBeth to the action and the former two contributed to an equalising goal. Fitzharris’ pacey corner was met well by Scullion and his header found the net.
With around ten minutes left to play, the home support was hopeful of a winning goal but Montrose fought back into the lead moments later. As Clyde failed to clear their lines properly, Jamie Winter lashed a volley from outside the box and it flew into the bottom corner of the net, possibly with the aid of a deflection.
Kevin Watt had a great chance to level the scores again before full-time when he found himself through on goal, but Crawford was able to turn his attempted chip over the bar.
