Clyde 1-2 Montrose
The Bully Wee suffered a very disappointing defeat at home this afternoon, as Montrose moved to within a point of Clyde in the IRN-BRU Third Division.
Ryan Kane (right) and Gavin Brown were added to the starting line-up following Tuesday’s match at Elgin, with Nick Feely making his home debut in goals.
The first half was a largely forgettable affair, with Kieran Brannan passing up Clyde’s best chance of the half. The forward did well to find space inside the visiting team’s box, but his shot lacked power or direction.
The Gable Endies took the lead early in the second half, through a free-kick from the edge of the box. The shot seemed to be heading into the arms of Feely, but Declan Gallagher’s attempt to divert the ball with his head resulted in it flying into the corner of the net.
However, The Bully Wee responded quickly to make it 1-1. Jamie Pollock’s dangerous corner was headed into his own net by Sean Crighton as Brian McQueen pressurised him, for a second own goal in the space of a few minutes.
Montrose took the lead again though on 64 minutes. A mistake by McQueen gave Martin Boyle a sight of goal and he striker flicked the ball past Feely and into the bottom corner of the goal.
Pat Scullion came closest to scoring a second equaliser, when his glancing header was well pushed away by Michael Andrews.
To complete a miserable day for Clyde, substitute Kris Irvine fell awkwardly in the last minute, forcing him off the field and meaning the game finished with only 21 men on the pitch.
