Higgy Boost for Cup Trip
John Brown spoke to the official website this afternoon on the eve of the Fourth Round of the Homecoming Scottish Cup, which sees Clyde take on Dunfermline at East End Park:-
“We have a strong squad with everyone available bar Neil McGregor, Scott Gemmill and Craig O’Reilly.”
Chris Higgins can play despite being in the middle of a two-match league suspension and Gary McSwegan and Ruari MacLennan are also available again.
John continued:-
“We have options and after last week’s showing there will be changes. Dunfermline will fancy themselves at home but the cup is a one off and the players will be looking to win. On our day we are capable of turning anyone over.
“I’m contemplating different formations but we gave them a lot of problems in playing the system we did in December. Slackness in defence cost us dearly that day so it’s something I’ll look at.
“What we don’t want to do is sit in and try and nick a goal – if we do that they will bombard us, so we will go with intention to win the tie at the first time of asking.
“But we’ve had two bad results in a row and we have to be sharper at back as we are conceding too many goals. We need to give ourselves a chance rather than shooting ourselves in the foot, but gladly we have Chris Higgins back who had been doing well prior to his suspension.
“Guys like McLaren, Clarke and Trouten we will always be able to create chances. Hopefully tomorrow we will defend better and cause Dunfermline problems, so we can get back to winning ways and continue our cup run.”
