Dunfermline 2 v 0 Clyde

Despite an improved showing, Clyde lacked the necessary cutting edge and the Bully Wee made their exit from the Homecoming Scottish Cup after a 2-0 defeat against Dunfermline at East End Park this afternoon.

Pat Clarke forced a fine early save from home ‘keeper Paul Gallacher but it was the hosts who took the lead through Nicky Phinn in the 20th minute. Later in the half, the Bully Wee were denied a penalty when Div McKay’s shirt was pulled in the box by Dunfermline defender Wilson but the referee chose to award a corner and the chance to equalise was lost.

Clyde started stronger in the second half with Clarke, Trouten and MacLennan coming close but the Pars took full advantage of Clyde’s carelessness in front of goal when Graham Bayne got Dunfermline’s second in the 66th minute. The powerful striker’s goal was received with as much relief as joy from the East End faithful. It was another example of the hosts being more clinical in front of goal than the visitors and that proved to be the Bully Wee’s downfall.

Clyde did have further chances from Clarke and McKay but it was not to be; so Dunfermline progress to Sunday’s Fifth Round draw and the Bully Wee were left to concentrate on the league for the remainder of the season.
