Emslie Returns for Perth Visit

For the second week in a row, it’s a trip North to face one of the league’s top sides tomorrow.

St. Johnstone will host the IRN-BRU First Division match that looks set to be well attended, with the Perth Saints reducing admission prices.

Adults can watch the game for £10, with concessions gaining entry for just £5.

Missing for Clyde are Ruari MacLennan (suspended), Stuart Kettewell (rib), Scott Gemmill and Neil McGregor. Neil’s recovery is taking longer than expected and he is undergoing further tests, with his return now not expected until the middle of January.

However, after missing last week’s epic 4-4 draw at East End Park due to injury, Paul Emslie returns to the squad. Chris Higgins can also play, but he will miss the next two league matches due to a points suspension.

Bully Wee boss John Brown commented, “We’re looking forward to the game. St. Johnstone are at the top of the league on merit but have yet to beat us this season so we will go into the match with confidence.

“It was pleasing last week to create and score so many chances against the Pars but the goals we lost were poor. Hopefully that was a blip. We have chatted to the defenders this week as we can’t afford to give away cheap goals. That was what we did last season and we can’t repeat that. St. Johnstone have scored four times against us this season and we really need everyone to be on the top of their game.”

The goals scored against Dunfermline and Pat Clarke topping the goalscoring charts have focussed eyes on the Bully Wee’s attacking skills: “Willie McLaren and Alan Trouten have given us an added dimension up f ont and that has been a real boost to the team.”

John has commented on the quality of McLaren before and this morning talked about the attributes of Trouten, “At the start of the season I felt Alan struggled with the physical demands of the First Division but he has worked at his fitness and is a real asset to us at the moment. Our current formation suits him and you can see he is an intelligent player by the chances he creates and takes.

“Tomorrow is important for us. Our last defeat was against Thistle in early November and we want to go into the New Year derby in good form so we will be determined to succeed at Perth and keep our momentum going.”
