Emslie Could Make Debut
Ross County will visit Broadwood on Sunday for a Quarter-Final match in the ALBA Challenge Cup. The competition’s sponsors are launching the new BBC ALBA Freeview channel on September 19th and will be broadcasting one Semi-Final and the Final live.
The Bully Wee continue to have a lengthy absentee list ahead of the match. Pat Clarke is suspended and Mark Brown will miss out due to an achilles injury picked up during the win over St. Johnstone. The pair will join Marvyn Wilson, Willie McLaren, Marc McCusker and David Hutton on the sidelines.
On a more positive note, Gary McSwegan and Neil McGregor are both back from injury and Paul Emslie could make his Clyde debut.
Both he and Alan Lowing will attend every training session during their loan spell. Supporters had a chance to see Alan in action at McDiarmid Park and John Brown spoke about Paul this afternoon:-
“Paul has had a good week’s training. He’s a hungry player that won’t hold out of any challenges and I think he’ll beef up our midfield. He can do the defensive or attacking work and he looks to have a go at goal when he can. He’s going to be an excellent addition to the squad.”
An additional Saturday training session has been organised to ensure the preparation for the match is right. John continued:-
“We don’t want any weekends off so the fixture has fallen at the right time for keeping the fitness levels and match sharpness up.
“I know County did really well at Firhill last week and I watched them on Wednesday night and thought they were unlucky to lose the match.
“The boys know that the last performance against them wasn’t acceptable. If you give them time and space they will hurt you, they are a passing team with a lot of movement. It was men against boys in the first half of that match and we are looking to rectify that on Sunday.”
The Clyde boss also revealed that one or two of the squad could be set to gain some valuable experience out on loan:-
“I’ve spoken to a couple of our younger players about going out on loan to get games under their belt and then come back in January. That may happen if the right clubs show an interest but we also need to make sure we have enough cover for injuries and suspensions.”
