Brown Determined to Start Strongly

The Bully Wee will be without three players for the First Division opener against Morton at Broadwood tomorrow.

Marvyn Wilson begins a three-match league suspension and Ricky Waddell and Marc McCusker are still recovering from injuries. Both are, however, expected to resume full training this week.

Despite missing the trio, John Brown was pleased to report a selection headache when he spoke to this afternoon:-

“After Wednesday night’s performance I have a nice headache picking the team. There’s more competition for places now and that’s something we’ve been trying to do. It keeps everyone on their toes and from the goalkeepers to the strikers there’s competition.

“Both our ‘keepers are in fine form and I’ve told them that they’ll both be getting games in the coming weeks, with plenty of league and cup games on the schedule.

“Pre-season has gone well, but they are only friendly matches. I’ve been happy with the fitness and the way we have played though.

“I know that people are writing us off but it’s a good motivation for our players when they see that. Some of our boys might not have been tested at this level but it’s all about scouting and knowing a player. We’ve got hungry players here who can go out and surprise a few people.

“I’m not concerning myself with the opposition, it’s about how we approach games and making sure our attitude and commitment is right. It’s the first game of the season but it’s our home game and we want to establish a strong record at Broadwood.”
