Ahead of Schedule
“We’re ahead of schedule. The boys were all given training plans for when they were off and it shows that they have followed them. I think that demonstrates their professionalism and commitment to the club.”
Those were the words of an upbeat John Brown as he spoke to the official website after the completion of the second day of pre-season training.
“After conditioning runs in the morning we were able to do some 7-a-side games this afternoon, so it has been really positive so far. It’s important that early on you get the lads playing with the ball as with ballwork you get that bit extra from players. Its fun but we are still making them work hard.”
After the first day’s training, which partly took place at Broadwood, the squad moved permanently to their training complex up at Grangemouth today. John continued, “We’re at Little Kerse now on a full-time basis and to minimise travel time we stay there for lunch.
“It all helps to gel the players together and get them to know each other. The atmosphere has been great.
“Andy Goram has been working with David Hutton, Peter Cherrie and our under-19 ‘keeper Gerry McLaughlin so we are preparing the whole squad properly for the challenges ahead.”
John concluded, “We invited a few players to join the signed players for training and some of them have showed up well. Some have been brought in with the under-19 squad in mind but a few may suit the first team. We’ll not be making any snap decisions on anyone though. It’s early days.”
