Clyde 1 V 0 Ross County

A goal from Alex Williams in the twenty-fifth minute was enough to give Clyde an excellent win over second top-of the table Ross County, for whom Stuart Taylor was sent off in the final minute.

Clyde could and possibly should have scored more today. An exquisite piece of skill by Tom Brighton on the right wing created a chance for the young forward to shoot but his effort struck the upright. It did not prove to be a costly miss however as Brighton became the supplier in the twenty-fifth minute firing in a cross from the left that Williams met at the near post to steer the ball home in style. It was harsh on County who had started the stronger but further proof that the partnership between Williams and Brighton is flourishing.

Early in the second half Clyde thought they had added further to their lead but a close range Williams header was ruled offside. Indeed it was Williams who again threatened for Clyde later in the second period when after collecting the ball near the half-way line he sprinted clear of the visitors defence and placed the ball past Stuart Garden in the Ross County goal only to be denied by the inside of the post.

County took heart from that miss and the game visibly became more stretched as John Robertson’s side tried everything to prevent their second consecutive defeat. It was not to be for County as Clyde held firm with Jarvie in fantastic form.

Strangely, despite there being little needle in the game, the match ended in controversial circumstances. Williams and Cowan were both booked for a minor skirmish off the ball after a throw in had been awarded and in the closing moments Stuart Taylor was red-carded for a foul on Eddie Malone.

It was a great victory for Clyde who could take further encouragement from the League debut of ex-Killie youth Steve Masterton in midfield.
