Bully Wee Winners!

The Clyde website got hold of a jubilant Billy Reid this evening. “It’s been an incredible time. By last night I had nearly 40 messages and it’s kept going. The whole Club is on a high and it’s nice to get the club some exposure for a change.”

“We have a team of winners,” Billy stated, “and they do not disappoint.”

Clyde started slowly, but Billy was quick to praise the opposition. “I think we have to give credit to County. They play some decent football and have some quality players including a couple of Under 21 internationalists but we were disappointed in how we started. We gave away too many free kicks but we changed it around to put three at the back and place Craig Bryson into the central area and we gradually began to take control.”

The Clyde boss felt that the Bully Wee’s play needed to be acknowledged. “There is a myth that Clyde are just physical side but I believe this win was more than the result of the team having plenty of heart. We passed the ball better than County in the second half and dominated the play. Indeed County switched to a 4-5-1 and sat in deep to counter the influence Darren Sheridan was playing in the middle of the park.”

It was at that time that Reid was frustrated by a minority of Clyde fans. “I just feel people needed to be patient. Some in the crowd were getting on the players’ backs for not putting the ball forward quick enough. Certainly at times our build up play was more pedestrian than I would have liked but against County you need to keep possession and it is at these times that fans have got to believe in what we are doing here”.

It was a physically and mentally draining game but Clyde have no respite as they are back in action on Saturday against Ross County. “The players will be on a high and to be honest I don’t want to alter that. We have got plenty to play for as we want to protect our second spot and the guys will all want to start against Celtic. So there is no question off us not being focussed on getting another win against County on Saturday”.
