D Day Thursday

Billy Reid spoke to the website today and hinted that Thursday is D Day for Jimmy Gibson’s chances of playing against Partick Thistle at the weekend. The influential midfielder will be put through his paces at training tomorrow.

“Last week Jimmy didn’t train and he didn’t last the game,” explained the Manager, “so we don’t want the same thing to happen again. Of course we run the risk of him breaking down in training but there is no point in throwing him into the action if he is not ready. Tomorrow will tell us if he has a chance of making the game”.

With Sheridan and Wilson suspended, the inclusion of Gibson is vital for Clyde’s chances as the limitations of the size of the squad begins to bite.

The Manager continued: “I hope to hear soon about John Potter’s plans but my hands are virtually tied in regard to strengthening the squad”.

Teams such as St Mirren are now in the position to sign up their better players for next season but Billy confirmed he was not similarly placed. “I can’t do that. With only two players signed for next season (Bryson & Malone), every other player will be free to talk to other teams from January”.

On a wider note the Mamager commented on Morton’s transfer splash in signing Chris Templeman from Brechin. “Templeman is a tall player with a proven record in the Second Division. The size of fee in today’s market was certainly surprising and obviously their chairman is putting his money where his mouth is. It is another example of how Clyde have overachieved but this group of players will not quit and will continue to try their best in maintaining our position in the Division”.

Saturday is sure to be a tough test. A derby match is no place for the faint-hearted and the local media have certainly highlighted the importance of the clash for Partick. Speaking in the Evening Times, former Thistle keeper and Real Radio presenter Alan Rough is in no doubt that Whyte and Britton can turn it around. With all the coverage it is highly likely that Clyde will be facing a highly-charged Partick side desperate to turn their season around for their fans and management team. Clyde fans will be keen to see how their favourites can rise to the challenge.
