Cup Draw At Broadwood
The third round draw for the Tennent’s Scottish Cup will be made live on television on Saturday, right after the second round ties are played.
BBC Scotland will broadcast the draw live on TV and radio at 5.00 pm, and it will held at Broadwood. The venue was chosen to mark the forthcoming 50th anniversary of Clyde winning the Scottish Cup in the first-ever Final to be televised by the BBC.
That was a golden era and Clyde certainly would not object to repeating their encounter with Celtic – and ideally repeating the trick of winning after a replay!
While a clash against Celtic is not impossible, sadly there is no hope of repeating the crowds as in 1955 the two games brought in an amazing 174,846 fans!
The game, refereed by the marvelously named Mr. Faultless, brought a perfect result for the Bully Wee with Tommy Ring getting the winner in the replay after Archie Robertson had dramatically equalised on Cup Final day.
The third round is where all the SPL and First Division teams join the winners of Saturday’s ten second round games. The third round will be played on Saturday, 8 January.
