Contract Renewal Progress

There have been positive developments on the contract renewals front this weekend with three players indicating that they are ready to sign new deals with the club.

Alan Kernaghan returns from holiday on Thursday and will meet with Jimmy Gibson and Allan Morrison with a view to getting their signatures. Both players have agreed terms and have given verbal assurances that they will sign.

It’s also expected that Simon Mensing will put pen to paper tomorrow or Tuesday after he indicated that he is ready to pledge his immediate future to the club despite other offers.

Assistant manager Billy Reid said:

“Things are now moving in the right direction. Signing Allan for another season gives one of the best First Division goalkeeping partnerships once again.

“Jimmy was keen to stay and he was a stand out for us for much of last season so everyone is delighted with this news. Simon can play in various positions and we’re also looking for him to improve his game again next season, which I’m sure he can. These two players were a priority for us.”

“I would stress that none of these players have actually signed yet but we’re very confident. We also know that there’s a long way to go yet with rebuilding the squad but these are very positive early steps.”

In other good news, Billy revealed that John Potter, who is contracted until January, is expected to be taking part in the pre-season schedule:

“John played 45 minutes in a bounce game at Rob Roy recently and did very well. If all goes to plan he’ll be ready for the start of the campaign and he’s got the attitude required to achieve it.”
