Three Players Re-Sign

Jimmy Gibson, Simon Mensing and Allan Morrison today put pen to paper on new one year contracts with the club. An upbeat Alan Kernaghan told the website:

“I’m delighted that I’ve been able to secure that kind of quality in the shape of players that I know. It’s also pleasing that they want to stay after all that has happened recently.

“Along with Jack Ross, Jimmy was instrumental in a lot of our success last season and we’ll be looking for him to do the same again. That was his first full year of playing first-team football having been at Rangers and he showed a lot of class and consistency; he can only get better.

“Simon is very versatile along the back line and looked comfortable in just about every position we asked him to play in. Allan also proved himself to be an excellent ‘number 2’ and he was unlucky to be left out when he was because he didn’t do a lot wrong. I think he can push Bryn even more than he has done already.”

The confirmed list of players now contracted for the start of the 2004/05 season is:- Ian Harty, Mark Gilhaney, Bryn Halliwell, John Potter, Kevin Fotheringham, Paul Doyle, David Greenhill, Allan Morrison, Simon Mensing and Jimmy Gibson.

The manager continued:

“There’s a board meeting tonight where finance will hopefully be made available to bring more quality to the club. We have the basis of a squad but we need to add more experience and a little bit of flair and we are looking around. It was always going to be a hard season but I’m still confident that we will be in the running.

“The two main reasons we lost out on the title last season were the poor performance against Inverness and a mixture of bad luck and bad finishing in the closing stages. We managed to improve on the previous season’s shortcomings in 2003/04, so it’s up to myself and Billy to make sure we do that again next year.”
